Predictable costs, and any provider who accepts Medicare.

Medicare Supplement

A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy works alongside Original Medicare and pays some or all of the deductibles and coinsurance you would otherwise owe. There is no network to check.

What to understand

  • Standardized plans

Medigap plans are standardized by letter, so the benefits of a given letter are the same across carriers.

  • Premium differences

Because benefits are standardized, price and carrier service are the real differences.

  • Drug coverage is separate

Medigap does not include Part D — prescription coverage is purchased separately.

  • Medical underwriting

Outside your initial open enrollment, health questions may apply. Timing matters.

Questions worth asking

  • Am I inside a window where health questions don't apply?
  • How have this carrier's rates changed over time?
  • Which plan letter fits how I actually use care?
  • Which Part D plan pairs best with my medications?
